Shipped to your door. Can’t help wondering about the carbon footprint of all this. I’ve had great good luck with baking soda, vinegar purchased in larger containers at the supermarket. We buy If You Care dishwasher pods; they come in a box rather than a plastic bag. If you really do care…look around for simple natural solutions available at your local supermarket.

I highly recommend Strip Clean laundry sheets from Australia, they ship worldwide and their products and packaging are eco-friendly. Here’s their website http://www.stripclean.com.au

Thanks for your comment, and we feel ya! We too are excited to see cleaning brands transition to low/zero waste packaging. From what we can find, Common Good uses 100% recyclable and refillable packaging, with refill stations nationwide. Seventh Generation has committed to 100% recyclable or compostable packaging in 2020, and Ecover bottles are made of a blend of “plant plastic” (sugar cane) and post-consumer recycled plastic. We always suggest readers reach out to brands to express concerns about packaging, and we’re always on the lookout when new, sustainable brands come along – so stay tuned!

In the meantime, check out our guide to DIY cleaning products (https://www.thegoodtrade.com/features/diy-non-toxic-cleaning-products). Depending on where you live, there may be a zero waste store nearby where you can refill glass bottles with sprays and soaps. Hope that helps! x

Any idea when these companies will shift away from plastic packaging or refills in environmentally friendly packaging?

Otherwise you have to soak overnight with vinegar and bicarb soda, even then it’s a looot of elbow grease. I like the ENJO marble paste but find it expensive. So I use our own homemade marble paste. You can find it here http://www.pristinecleaning.com.au/resources/

They have been around for a long time and work great. But there pricing is really expensive when there are now alternatives like nanotowels that work just as well and are much more affordable. It’s mainly just microfiber not some expensive technology but I guess you pay for the name

They are like magic, very efficient, easy to clean and best of all chemical free. Also, because I do not use any product, there are no residues left on my surfaces so the y are pore deep clean, they recovered their natural shine and I don’t have any sticky residue that attracts dust or dirt so they stay clean longer. I don’t know why more people don’t talk about them. I’ve never seen my house so clean and shinny and bacteria free.
